Photographic Printing

No amount of restoration, manipulation or enhancement of your photographs has lasting value unless printed to the highest quality. We pride ourselves in providing archival quality prints from the latest 8-ink pigment printers. Equally important is the paper we use. You may choose from conventional glossy, lustre, satin or matt papers, to the very best in heavyweighrt cotton rag, pH-neutral stock, white or warm tone, in a variety of surfaces. We can also print to canvas.

In standard sizes we can print 3" x 5", 4" x 6", 5" x 7", 6" x 8", 8" x 10", 9" x 12", 10" x 12", 12" x 16", 16" x 20", A4, A3, A2, up to A2+ (17" x 24"). In non-standard sizes we can print any size up to 17" x 37" or 13" x 43" - ideal for those restored school photographs!

Photographic Mounting

Photographs are always better presented and protected when framed. Heathfield Studios does not generally provide framing service, because we know we cannot compete with large scale suppliers in both range of styles and price, but will provide frames by quotation if requested.

We do however, provide a mounting (matting) service, to prepare your new photographs for framing. A decorative mounting board is cut with a bevel-edge aperture to suit your photograph, and the outer dimensions are cut to suit off-the-shelf standard frame sizes. The use of a matte like this is recommended for several reasons:

  • It dramatically enhances the appearance of your photograph
  • It ensures that the photograph is not in contact with the glass - all photographs have a propensity to stick to the glass after long periods in adverse conditions
  • It enables a non-standard shape of photograph to be matched to a standard frame size, easing the task of frame selection and avoiding the expense of a custom-made frame.

When we mount your photograph, we first attach the photograph to a backing board, to ensure that the photograph sits absolutely flat. It is then mounted behind the aperture of the matte which has been cut here on the premises specifically for your photograph.

We can advise on suppliers of frames in your area upon request.
